About Bodelwyddan Solar and Energy Storage

Bodelwyddan Solar and Energy Storage is a solar farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project located on the boundary of Conwy and Denbighshire. It comprises two separate sites connected by an underground cable. The solar farm is proposed on land to the northwest of Bodelwyddan. The BESS is proposed on land adjacent to Bodelwyddan substation, to the south of St Asaph Business Park. The project will connect to National Grid’s Bodelwyddan 400kV substation.

If approved, the project could generate a power output of up to 110 megawatts (MW), or enough to power 26,657 homes. The BESS (also 110MW) would store any surplus energy generated and supply the national grid as and when needed. The project is in the early stages of development. A number of environmental studies are ongoing to inform its design, such as ecology, noise, landscape and heritage amongst other topics . We will engage with the planning authorities, town councils, nearby residents and the local community once these studies have been progressed, prior to submitting our planning application later in 2025.
