Environmental savings
Project information
The proposed location for the solar farm is 1.5 km north of Welby on land at Pasture Farm. The site is situated to the south-east of Heath Lane and RAF Barkston Heath. The B6043 High Dyke runs along the western boundary, and a public bridleway from Heath Lane to Quarry Farm runs along the northern boundary. Access to the site will be via an existing farm track branching off the B6043 High Dyke.
Our planning application includes the installation of solar panels, a battery storage compound, a substation, and associated facilities on land at Pasture Farm. Additionally, it covers the installation of underground cables connecting the solar farm to the Grantham substation on Newgate Lane (in Londonthorpe and Harrowby Without Parish).
The solar panels will be positioned within the site on land of lower agricultural quality. They will also be situated away from woodlands, trees, ponds, and areas of potential archaeological significance. The panels will be arranged in rows, with each panel designed to rotate and track the sun during the day, maximising efficiency.
We will need to apply to South Kesteven District Council for planning permission to build the solar farm. If planning permission is granted, we hope to start construction within three years. The solar farm would operate for 40 years, exporting clean electricity to the grid. At the end of this period, the infrastructure will be dismantled, and the site returned to agriculture.
Status
We successfully hosted our public consultation event on 24th January at Heydour Parish Hall. The next step is for us to submit our planning application, and we will do this once we have finalised our design proposals.
